In 1994 its mandate, originally set by the UN General Assembly, was revised to reflect the changing needs of its Members, defining its new role as to provide information technology services on a full cost-recovery basis - to implement information Coordination Committee programmes in accessing UN information by Member States and provide services in relation thereto - to assist in exploiting networking and computing technology - to give advice and disseminate information on questions related to information management - and to offer training on information technology, not otherwise available, to fellows nominated by UN Member States and Interns.
