The International Telecommunication Union is the UN agency responsible for ensuring international cooperation in the rational use and improvement of telecommunications of all kinds, including radio, television, telegraph, telephone and space communications. The ITU manages the orderly recording and registration of frequency assignments and positions of geostationary satellites, for the establishment of equipment and systems operating standards, and for promoting telecommunications development worldwide. It coordinates and disseminates information required for the planning and operation of telecommunication services, and promotes the development of networks and facilities throughout the world.
