The World Meteorological Organization is the UN specialised agency which promotes the effective use worldwide of meteorological and hydrological information, notably in weather and water resource prediction and in climatology. It seeks to coordinate, standardise and improve the international exchange of weather information upon which meteorologists base their services to the public at large and to other interests sensitive to weather conditions such as agriculture, shipping, and the environment. The WMO is concerned with environmental problems such as atmospheric, river and marine pollution, and how to help deal with and warn of emergencies that might arise from accidental release of dangerous pollutants into the atmosphere.
